Sisyphus Learns
Sisyphus heaves the boulder
one mighty shove that first time
trudging ascent
after the tenth time
his chest bruised
he knows he is screwed
he learns to take it slow
to breathe between pushes
like perpetual labor
he measures contractions
and imagines
a green field
he floats in this egg
as his bones crack

Sometimes life is just that way. Hellacious and very, very painful, but if one is to remain in the land of the living what is there to do but float through the cracking as Hope takes her own sweet time to be born.....however premature, malnurished, and frail.
This is lovely. Wonderful painting too.
Thank you for the magic !
Hi Lucy
another fine work.
Love the last lines. The image sears my eyes!

A poem that merges a man's labor with a woman's labor.
The last two lines remind me of Dylan Thomas' poetry ("If my head hurt a hair's foot", especially).
I love Dylan Thomas. I am blushing. Even my toes are blushing.
Thanks Aubrey!
Lucy, who will find and look in her volume of his poetry tomorrow for that line.
